Santa Cruz  Kids in Nature

Summer Camps

WEEK 8  :  JULY 27 - 31

Theme 1:Exploring The Wild Coast: From Seabirds, to Restoration, to Fossils, to Waves

In this camp we will explore the unique ecology of our local coastline. We will track coyote prints in the sand, explore tide-pools, plant native plants with local restoration groups and watch Northern Harriers dive for their prey on the bluffs. This camp will have a slightly more scientific focus with lots of discovery, play, and reflection in between. We are lucky to live and explore in such a beautiful part of the world and to get to learn from local restoration scientists who are helping to keep it healthy and beautiful!

Theme 2:  Land of the Gnomes: Spring Holes, Rock Spirals, Mosses and Ferns

Let’s celebrate the end of summer with lots of games in magical, mysterious places. We might see families of wild turkeys flying through the Douglas Firs, koi fish swimming in a spring box, newts living by streams, and lots of ripe blackberries! The theme is discovery, awe, joy, and playfulness while we greet nature out on the trail! Word in the forest is that gnomes pepper the path with lots of secret messages, too…

Theme 3:Older Kiddo Camp -Adventures in the Forest Part 3 **for Ages 11 - 15**

This camp is part of a 3-part offering for the older kiddos in our community. You can join all three, or pick and choose. The camps will build on each other but it is not necessary to attend all three. Some activities include shelter building, high level camouflage, tracking, birding, exploring, pranks, art-making, wildlife ID, games, and mysteries. Camp will be all-outdoors and will emphasize teamwork, discovery, and personal growth and confidence during the pre-teen and early teen years. We had a LOT of fun with this the last two years and can’t wait to do it again this summer!
